Fabric News for Another Snowy Day

Fabric News for Another Snowy Day

A surefire antidote for days and weeks of subfreezing temperatures and another blizzard
on tap, is a leisurely trip through the new fabrics available for the Spring season.

If you love florals, pastels and bright cheerful prints this is your season. I have never
seen so many beautiful florals; they are near photographic in their depiction. No single
color seems to predominate this new season and that is a good thing. There is something for everyone.

Batiks, Bali Batiks, Island Batiks in ocean shades are all out in force. Some of the oversized backing fabrics are so fine I plan to use them on fronts.

Alexander Henry has a new line of Matisse fabrics, Vie en Rose. Both the big bold compositions and the the overall monochromatic print ones are faithfully represented. If you are an impressionist fan, using these bold fabrics in large blocks, either pieced or appliqued, tricks the eye to recognize far more detail than is actually in the sewing. Because the fabric is packed so tightly with detail you have a head start on intricacy.

Barbara Brackman and Moda have collaborated on William Morris prints: birds and
flowers and overall monochromatic prints. The colors are superb.

Farmers Fancy is a new line from Windham which features reproduction prints from
18th Century coverlets. CityScapes features New York City scenes from Saturday
Evening Post archives.

There is new Kaffe Fassett, Paula Nadelstern and Kona Bay orientals. There is
kids’ stuff, baby stuff, Shelburne reproductions, solids, marbles and muslins.
